Sutton up against the world

Why would anyone choose a vacation in Sutton versus anywhere else in the world? Lets face it, in tourism that’s what Sutton and the area are up against - the world! The Internet has opened paths to destinations all over the planet with an array of virtual tours. Children can visit the North Pole from their living room and chat or exchange e-mails with Santa. How’s that for modern living! It has also changed the decision-making process when picking a destination. Sutton is on the map and many tourists, weekenders, young families and baby boomers choose to visit and spend time here. The main reasons are obvious for choosing Sutton: unspoilt green spaces, relative tranquillity, uncommon simplicity and an abundance of good-natured people.

However, in order to better inform Internet users, and to help new travellers find Sutton more easily, Sutton needs to remain at the head of the class, and “first up” be it on Google or other search engines. That is why the Corporation de développement économique de Sutton’s marketing committee has proposed and is developing a new web site of “WEB II” design. It isn’t online yet but should be by the beginning of April 2008 at this address: www.infosutton.com.

The group considered that if Sutton wanted to remain a tourism destination, it needed a web site that could keep up with the times and work harder for the tourism community. But that’s not all that is being revamped. Visitors will find two new maps: one of the village centre and one of a wider area. The village map is similar to the one used last summer to facilitate circulation during the burial of the wires project. It has been adapted for winter guests and offers a four-season look. The larger area map highlights the mountain range with a “massive” attitude! This map is topographical in nature with elevations, lakes, conservation areas and roads, but it also includes the location of merchants, hotels, restaurants, art galleries and events. The two maps will be distributed locally and at the “National Home Show” in mid-March attended by some 170,000 visitors.
